SUMMARY:Performance at The Hyde Collection
DESCRIPTION:On August 6\, 2022\, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company returns to The Hyde Collection to present a site-specific concert created in response to the exhibit Transformations: The Art of John Van Alstine. Also featured is guitarist Maria Zemantauski. Spanning two large galleries\, Van Alstine’s pieces offer a heightened experience for both the audience and the dancer of a simultaneous sense of weight and floating that occurs when natural stone and man-made objects are combined. This is the third collaboration between ESDC and Van Alstine. Each experience between choreographer and sculptor opens new expanses\, new queries and ultimately new vision.

SUMMARY:ESDC’s Annual Home Base Concert at The Egg 2019
DESCRIPTION:AN EVENING OF NEW DANCE AND LIVE PERFORMANCES BY ESDC WITH CELLIST ASHLEY BATHGATE\nThis evening’s performance features the premiere of Faultline with the music of Christopher Cerrone played live by celebrated cellist\, Ashley Bathgate. \n    Momentum\, sometimes out of control\, sometimes caught in suspended space. \n    Power in its most extreme. \nWithin the Quiet\, originally premiered in 2020\, will also feature Ashley Bathgate performing the music of Jacob Cooper.  \n   The elegant sculpting of the dancers’ bodies fluctuates between shifting forms\, soft gatherings\, windswept designs and         serene stillness. SUMMARY:Performance at the Opalka Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company will present a site-specific performance within the Opalka Gallery during the Judith Braun My Pleasure Exhibition on Friday\, April 1\, 2022.   \nESDC will create a series of dances that explore\, enhance and elaborate on Ms. Braun’s art as well as on the unique design of the exhibit. Ms. Braun’s larger than life black and white paintings\, their placement on frames that can be moved within the gallery space\, the enormous backdrop of lettering and side paintings at the entrance to the exhibit establish an environment of boldness\, mood and intrigue. The layering of ESDC’s choreography throughout the gallery; the selection of early 20th century and current African American jazz and blues music; the striking costume design of Kim Vanyo all combine to ensure an evening of surprise\, humor\, drama and singular experience.

SUMMARY:Abram Lansing Elementary School Residency 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company’s  Around the World project works with the Abram Lansing Elementary School’s 3rd grade students to expand their study of Egypt\, Norway\, Japan\, Brazil by incorporating the art form of dance and creative movement workshops. Engaging in the creative process and dance\, students increase their knowledge of dance vocabulary\, enhance their personal understanding of the 4 countries studied\, and reinforce their ability to verbally and physically articulate this knowledge. Throughout the residency students become increasingly aware of and proficient in the dance elements of Space\, Time\, Force\, Body and Movement. Combining classroom instruction and movement workshops allows students to deepen their understanding of the topic studied in inventive and engaging ways. For example\, students become a fjord (Norway)\, bullet train (Japan)\, rain forest (Brazil) and mummy (Egypt).

SUMMARY:As Close As We Can (Take 3!)
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce our third virtual performance! \nCLICK HERE to watch the performance! \nSaturday\, March 13\, 2021 \nWe continue to reinvent dance\, add new parameters\, and turn challenges into surprising opportunities. \nThis winter evening will feature House of Fables\, a collaboration with classical Indian composer Devesh Chandra\, and Compas\, a collaboration with classical Flamenco guitarist Maria Zemantauski. Back due to popular demand\, our newest duet\, Slipping Through\, will be performed. ESDC will also premiere Fade. Created to the haunting music of Henryk Górecki’s “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”\, the dance evokes the isolation and loss experienced by so many of us as we traverse this very strange world in which we currently live. \nIn addition\, the audience will hear in real time from Artistic Director Ellen Sinopoli and the dancers as they talk about how they prepared for this virtual performance.  There will also be the opportunity for a Q & A session–type your questions in the YouTube comment section\, and we’ll answer them live! \nRegister by making your suggested donation of $25 here\n \n \nThe YouTube link to view the performance will be available on this page the evening of the concert.  Additional information can be obtained by contacting the company at info@sinopolidances.org.
