Experience stirring movement and music as the two companies unite for the very first time to perform Celebrated Emblems, a captivating exploration of identity, history, and place. This distinctive program will be performed on January 24, 2025, at the Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany and January 25, 2025, at SUNY-Schenectady.
Celebrated Emblems features works by distinguished contemporary composers James Lee III, Missy Mazzoli, William Jay Sydeman, and George Walker, each delving into the stories and landscapes that shape America with powerful compositions.
The dance company will perform two new works inspired by James Lee III’s “Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet” and Missy Mazzoli’s “Death Valley Junction”. In the first dance, “Telling”, the dancers reveal and share narratives both private and timeless. The dancers reveal and share these narratives through imagery that intrigues, stimulates, summons. For its second piece, “Dust Devils”, the dancers inhabit the desert with its sense of emptiness and deceptive stillness; the sounds of a constant wind that sweeps up “dust devils” and the singular humanity that chooses to cohabitate with that environment.
