ESDC’s Annual Homebase Concert at The Egg

ESDC performs in The Egg’s Hart Theater!

The ever creative, collaborative choreography of ESDC, resident dance company of The Egg, returns to the stage to perform its annual showcase of imaginative and inspiring works. The company will be joined on stage by musicians Brian Melick and Maria Zemantauski who will play live for Falling (2003). Bob Buckley will join the pair in performing live music for Compas (2008), and for a musical interlude. Melick and Zemantauski’s stunning musical compositions are fused with an array of jazz and funk that takes the dancers and audience on a most enticing ride.

Also on the program is the company’s newest work, Boundary Behavior (2024) set to the music of David Walther, Jr., which premiered at the University at Albany Performing Arts Center in January. The dance will be performed with the addition of a projected image created by Willie Marlowe. The choreography explores how boundaries control and curtail movement and yet enable it when they segment, shatter, reshape and become living malleable entities.

The fourth and final work on the program is inspired by the Opalka Gallery’s exhibition “Séance: Photographs by Shannon Taggart.” This is the premiere of the dance at The Egg. Hilary Tann, a fellow artist, friend, and colleague, was taken from us much too soon and quite suddenly. It is an honor to work with and develop a dance to this very beautiful composition of Hilary’s, “And the Snow Did Lie.”
